New York City is famous for many things and one of my absolute favorites is New York pizza. There’s nothing like a classic New York slice with its thin, crispy crust and oil running down your arm as you bite into the tangy, cheesy goodness. While there are several New York staple pizza shops slinging slices, there are also many newer spots serving up equally delicious pies so why not try them all (or at least make the attempt)?
Andrew and I recently spent 4 days in New York City for our anniversary and we knew we wanted to enjoy some New York slices but where to start?! Thus, the idea of a DIY pizza crawl was born. After researching some newer shops and recalling a few of my favorites as well, I plotted out our pizza crawl through the West Village and SoHo. We also set out a few guidelines to ensure the best crawl possible – here’s how it worked:

- Start in the West Village taking the subway to W 4th & Washington Square (A,B,C,D,E) or Christopher Street (1,2).
- Must walk between each shop to slow down the eating.
- Order one slice of either plain cheese or pepperoni only and stick with it at every stop to accurately compare.
- Have cash on hand as some shops are cash only.
After landing in New York City, we dropped our bags and headed out. Here’s the path we planned:
- Stop 1: L’industrie Pizzeria, 104 Christopher Street
- Stop 2: Bleecker Street Pizza, 69 7th Ave South
- Stop 3: Joe’s Pizza, 7 Carmine Street
- Stop 4: Lucia Pizza of Soho, 375 Canal Street
- Stop 5: Scarr’s Pizza, 35 Orchard Street
Still Hungry? There’s more at Prince Street Pizza, Lombardi’s, and Una Pizzeria
If you’re interested in following our crawl, I’ve mapped out our stops in this handy Google Map for you.
I will say that this plan was quite ambitious. Even with an empty stomach and the best of intentions, we were only able to knock out three stops before getting quite full. New York slices are not only delicious but they’re also quite large. If you can make it through all 5 in one go, I’ll be very impressed. Regardless of how many stops you make, it’s sure to be delicious!

so happy to see you enjoying all that Pizza, wish I were there
